Jolynn was born in rural Pennsylvania on a spring day in May. According to her mother she was nearly dropped on her head on the hospital steps, as being the fourth child, her mother made sure that she took out the trash after work before heading to the hospital. She grew up on a farm where her best childhood friends were her cats, her pony and her brother. She attended the local Zion Mennonite Church, but opted out by jr high, looking for more things modern. By the teen years she was an only child and a horse crazed, music loving girl who spent most of her time in the barn and aspired to be on the Olympic Equestrian 3-Day team, a rock star, or a writer. Since she couldn't play an instrument very well and did not come from a rich family, she went off to college and graduate school in New York City. Although she loved all her lit and writing classes, she ultimately majored in psychology and ended up with a doctorate of psychology.
She trained as a psychologist and worked with children in NYC until she moved to Seattle on a very hot night during a heat wave on July 8, 1995, with her dog, 3 cats, and future husband, John. They set across the country via rental moving van and planned to see the sites across the country, but the cats (being hot and cramped) insisted on driving straight through and so they did.
Jolynn opened a private clinic that specialised in children's mental health. A child was adopted and made the family 5. Being a farmer she turned the suburban eastside lot and house into a homestead. By the time this included chickens, ducks and geese (all against homeowner association policy), and all lawn space gone for food growing, John moved the family to a farm.
Jolynn is married to John, has 3 kids, and homeschools the youngest. She works as a psychologist and farmer, and is also trained as a yoga instructor and Community Centered Herbalist. She is thought to be a bit strange, even (and perhaps especially) by her family.
